How do I get a statement file from my bank?

Nearly every bank has an export button. Look for Download, Export or Statements in your online banking, then choose CSV (sometimes called “spreadsheet”, “Excel” or “Quicken”).

Pick the longest range you can — 12 to 24 months is ideal, because yearly subscriptions only show up once.
Export your current account and your credit cards, then drop them all in together. Subscriptions hide on the card you look at least.
PDF statements won't work. If CSV isn't offered, OFX/QFX (“Quicken format”) will do.
